Chantelle Crossland, BSc. (Hons.)
Prompted by her keen fascination with the sciences, Chantelle developed an interest in the anatomy and physiology of the human body and the complexities of the healing process from a young age. This interest has continued to shape her clinical practice today, encouraging her to incorporate the newest developments in treatment modalities with traditionally successful methods to ensure that her patients enjoy the best possible care.
Chantelle’s interest in boosting the recovery processes of the body came about after she suffered from a serious ligament injury as a child. This experience has moulded Chantelle into a clinician who believes deeply in the importance of patient education and understanding patient needs, allowing her to optimise treatment to minimise their recovery time. This attention to patient care and treatment has garnered her many referrals from satisfied parents with young children as she is approachable and adept at making young patients comfortable.
Chantelle graduated from the University of Huddersfield (UK) with first-class honours in Podiatry. She is also trained and certified in medical shockwave applications by the International Society of Medical Shockwave Treatments.
“One of the most common conditions we see in clinic is ankle injury. As an endurance runner and netball player, I too have experienced this problem. The biggest obstacle to treating this condition is that patients often ignore it as they think it is ‘normal’ to experience discomfort after exercise. Instead of addressing the issue, they allow it to worsen and only seek medical attention when the pain is unbearable. While some may choose to stop or reduce their level of physical exercise, I wanted to continue at my normal pace, so I had to consider a different approach when it came to maintaining my foot health.”Paediatric Podiatry
“The new paediatric expansion at my resident clinic now allows to me to see more young patients. Whilst it can be challenging, I have always enjoyed working with children. Although they are seen as ‘small adults’, understanding children’s individual growth and development is a hugely importance aspect in correct diagnosis and treatment for paediatric conditions. This is why early diagnosis and conservative intervention plays a big part in preventing pain when the child is older, allowing them to live a fun-filled active lifestyle.”Ingrown Toenails
“Another common condition that is often seen at our clinic affecting both adults and children are ingrown nails that often occur with a secondary bacterial or fungal infection. Although seemingly small in appearance, ingrowing nails can disable patients within their daily lifestyle and are often a recurring problem if not treated correctly. Trying to treat this condition at home can worsen the problem, often leading to an open wound and therefore a portal of infection making it much harder for effective treatment. From experience, seeking medical attention in a timely manner is the best management for this condition.”
Chantelle is deeply keen on exploring and learning more about others around the world, having visited multiple countries around Europe and Asia. Her love for interacting with new people and gaining life experiences amongst different cultures has helped her to be comfortable in new environments and experiences.
When she is not keeping active through her love of running, badminton or HIIT workouts, Chantelle also enjoys exploring different aspects of life in Singapore and experiencing the multicultural delights of the nation.
Bunions are a common condition that many think is caused by your footwear. While footwear can be a contributing factor, it is not the main cause for bunions. Find out more about bunions in this video with podiatrist Chantelle Crossland and how podiatric treatments can help address this issue.
